RAIN CHASERS
PRESENTATION OF THE LS (SdA): RAIN CHASERS is designed for students in the 1st level of Compulsory Secondary education to be developed in the English area.
DESCRIPTION AND PURPOSE OF THE TASKS: In this LS (SdA) students will explore the characteristics of weather forecast on TV, they will learn the specific vocabulary and structures and will record their own section for a tv programme. They will enhance language skills such as the structure of descriptive texts, team work as they will collaborate working in groups, digital literacy as the will record a video using digital tools, also video editing apps and oral production as the will act as meteorologists in the class. The project fosters their oral language skills, environmental awareness and cultural competence too, through different interesting, motivating and engaging activities.
This LS is designed to be developed during the third term in order to introduce the future verbal tenses.
COMPETENCY-BASED SEQUENCE:
Students will explore the weather forecast in apps and tv programmes, they will create their own scripts and record their own tv programmes as meteorologists as a final product. In order to achieve this task, there will be a sequence of different activities to enhance their language skills, digital literacy, teamwork and creativity. This LS (SdA) is designed to be developed during 6 sessions (55 minutes each).
Activities sequence:
Introductory video to present the LS and initial evaluation quiz about the weather.
Specific vocabulary presentation about the weather.
Teamwork in groups of four to brainstorm and create the script and draft for their tv programme.
Written comprehension activities to provide models and develop an environmental awareness.
Verbal tenses to express future, linguistic expressions and sequencing connectors. Game
Written production. Creation of a dialogue about the weather.
Working on the video edition of the weather broadcasting. Adding effects, text and credits.
Oral production: reading weather maps.
Self assessment and peer assessment.
